Training Overview Description

Are you a licensed dental professional? This special session is tailored just for you and will provide you with the opportunity to learn your key role as an oral health provider in HPV prevention. To kick off Oral Health Awareness Month, please join Christina Demopoulos, DDS, MPH, of University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine as she provides evidence based strategies to promote the HPV vaccine in the dental setting.

Approximately 70% of oropharyngeal cancers may be linked to HPV with the remaining attributed to alcohol and tobacco use. According to the CDC, roughly 3,100 new cases are reported in females and 12,638 being reported in males each year. Patients may not always know if they have been exposed to HPV so it is important to ask detailed questions on the medical history regarding known risk factors of oropharyngeal cancer such as alcohol and tobacco in addition to a history of HPV and the HPV vaccine.
